Free Phone service big for Fibernetics
The Fibernetics Group of Companies makes money by giving away free services. At least that’s how Fibernetics chief marketing officer, John Stix, explains the company’s business model. “Our goal as an organization evolves – especially with the kind of growith we’ve gone through – but we have embarked over the last year-and-a-half to eliminating the cost of the common phone line in Canada. We want to eliminate the cost residentially and from an enterprise solution as well.”

Transforming telecommunications for business
Free business phone lines—the idea may seem impossible. Fibernetics CLEC, under the Fibernetics Group of Companies, have successfully achieved this through its Digital PBX Phone Systems. Based out of Kitchener-Waterloo, Ont., Fibernetics has managed to create a successful enterprise using the latest telecommunications technologies. This month, The Canadian Business Journal investigated this intriguing idea and find out the Fibernetics formula for success.
Fibernetics began as a business DSL Internet Service, and eventually expanded the offer to include free business phones. Jody Schnarr, CEO of Fibernetics, and John Stix, Chief Marketing Officer, saw an opportunity to provide a solution for the incredibly high cost of business phone lines. It was from there that their telecommunications business was born. After installing a proprietary Fibernetics Digital PBX Phone System, customers never have to pay for business phone lines again.

Cheaper? Hello
The internet age has raised expectations for small businesses. Decades ago, customers were content to leave a message on a Sunday; now they expect even very small firms to be available around the clock. At the same time, these businesses are more focused on cost savings to support their bottom lines. While these goals may seem contradictory, entrepreneurs need only look to the clouds to find a readily available option to achieve both simultaneously.
Often called a 'cloud-based' service because it is accessed online, voice-over internet protocol, or VoIP, is more than a consumer product marketed under popular brands such as Skype or Vonage. Lesser known services such as Fibernetics or Ring-Central offer commercial VoIP that has the same features of a PBX-based (private branch exchange) phone system, for a fraction of the cost.
