John Stix was asked to be a Mentor at the Toronto Founder Institute this summer. The Founder Institute carefully recruits approximately 25 Mentors per Semester, who are normally the CEO or Founder of a successful startup. These Mentors are selected based on their expertise on a topic in the curriculum, and their mandate is to help participating Founders by sharing their experience and providing feedback.
[blockquote author=”John Stix” position=”President” company=”Fibernetics”]“The amazing journey that an Entrepreneur embarks on can be incredibly rewarding and inspiring. The relationships, celebrations, failures, risks and memories, make all the sacrifices seem like a group badge of honour that you wear proudly on your sleeve,” said John. “I try to stop, pause and soak in every moment and so should everyone else. I’m indeed proud to be a mentor for the Founders Institute.” [/blockquote]
John’s first session is on the subject of ‘Vision and Ideas’ on Tuesday, July 7th with the goal being to help the Founders in the class understand the topic from his perspective. Speaking for 20-30 minutes John will cover:

  • What constitutes a “good idea”?
  • How do you come up with good ideas?
  • Does passion matter with ideas?
  • How can you tell what you are passionate about?
  • How do you translate your passion into one or more business ideas?
  • What basic tools should every Founder have from the start?
  • What tools should Founders use to develop their ideas in the beginning?
  • How does being a Founder align with personal goals, objectives and vision?

There will be a question and answer session with all of the Mentors, and a Founder Hotseat, where John then critiques the business and assignment of select participants. For more on the sessions, and how to attend, please visit the Founder Institute website.
