Fibernetics is growing again!

As a CLEC*, we already operate a Canadian private network covering 85% of the population, and we’re dedicated to growing into more areas and bringing more choice to Canadians.

This August, we expanded into the Local Interexchange Region (LIR) of St. Thomas and we’re excited to introduce ourselves and offer our services to the 50,000 people living and working in St. Thomas, West Lorne, Sparta, Shedden, Rodney, Port Stanley, Fingal, and Dutton.

We’re also excited to announce that we have more LIR expansions planned this year:

  • Chateauguay, QC
  • Sorel, QC
  • Parry Sound, ON
  • St-Eustache, QC
  • Levis, QC
  • St-Hyacinthe, QC
  • Terrebonne, QC

For those of you living in these regions, you may have some questions about Fibernetics.

*What is a CLEC?

Let’s start with what an ILEC is: Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers are local telephone companies which had the monopoly on providing phone services before the market was opened up to competition in the 1990s.

CLECs are Competitive Local Exchange Carriers: telecommunications companies which are able to compete with the ILECs. While ILECs are legally required to provide phone service to an entire exchange area, CLECs are able to choose which areas they will service.

What does it mean for a CLEC to expand into your area if you’re a consumer?

Healthy competition within an industry is always better for the consumer: you get more choice and better prices. A CLEC moving into your area means you can stay with your current telecommunications company and potentially negotiate better pricing, or try out the services of the competitors.
